The darkness does not exist. You can’t set the darkness and bring it to life. Darkness cannot be quantified. She is the nonexistent mother of light. When the sun sets, darkness appears. When the sun rises, the darkness recedes. The moment the light enters, the darkness disappears. Similarly, hate is the non-existence of love. Both hate and love cannot coexist like light and darkness.
Once the light is on, the darkness cannot simply appear and replace it without some effort, such as turning off the power. Likewise, once love kills hate, it is difficult for hate to take its place in our lives again. However, we cannot simply dress up or download love. It has a price attached to it that we must pay. It requires that we understand the truth behind love and its benefits, and make efforts to embrace love and reject hate.
Love is a universal language, although the love we express towards our lovers differs from the love we show towards the deity, friends and colleagues. Although love is not a purely emotional attribute, it does invoke emotion once we are in love.
Love can be expressed in many ways. Dr. Chapman proposed five love languages. These include words of affirmation, quality time, receiving gifts, acts of service, and physical contact. Of course, not all signs of love are observable. We can express our love by praying for the people we love, wishing them the best and thinking of them, their well-being and more.
However, we cannot go to school or receive training to love. Love is a choice. It is beyond a feeling. The latter changes with the situations, true love, once engraved in us, remains there for a long time and regardless of the changes around us.
Your love does not mean that you have to compromise your values and principles. We can still maintain order, justice, and fairness while still in love. Just because we love someone doesn’t mean we don’t point out her weaknesses or correct her when she’s wrong. We have seen in our history leaders who loved but at the same time defended their values.
Jesus came to die for humanity. There is no love beyond dying for another. While he was on the cross, he prayed and forgave his enemies. However, before his crucifixion, he criticized the Pharisees for his hypocrisy. He even drove the merchants out of the Temple. Those leaders of the rights movement like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. stood up for justice and equality, but they did it without hate.
Considering the fruits of love and the benefits that come with it, it is better to love than to hate. With the former come peace, joy, contentment, and greater self-esteem. With hate comes disease, crime, self-condemnation, internal chaos, and more. Therefore, switching from hate to love is figuratively equivalent to turning on the light in the living room. The moment when the light is on; we see clearly, without guesswork, confusion, stumbling, etc. Let’s embrace love, let’s celebrate it. Let’s wave your flag and hold it high in our life, relationship, business, and marketplace.
