Weekly Review: The Seven Deadly Sins

Hello! I’m back and ready for another week of reviews! Miss me? This week we’re talking about a show that I recently finished and couldn’t wait to write: The Seven Deadly Sins. This was one of those shows where my girlfriend was scolding me for watching it saying it was “awesome and fun.” I finally got to see it after I learned that the main main character’s English voice was Bryce Papenbrook (the same voice for Kirito from SAO and Eren from AoT). I have to say that I am very happy that I saw this anime. Even though it’s only been a year since its release, I’m praying for a sequel soon as they left the door wide open (cough, cough, they could have called it the six deadly sins … wink wink).

What the heck is this anime series about anyway? Well, we uncover a lot of information throughout the entire series and are blatantly reminded of each opening scene with the booming voice of “This is a story …”, but I’ll sum it up in my own words. . The kingdom is known as Britannia, and it is ruled by a king and his band of powerful and loyal guards known as the Holy Knights. A group of knights within the Holy Knights, more powerful than any other, were known as the Seven Deadly Sins. They were known for their tremendous strength on the battlefield and their loyalty to their king. However, rumors spread quickly and furiously that they were plotting to overwhelm the king. After a day of scars, one that led to the death of the Grand Master (leader of the Holy Knights), all the blame fell on the Seven Deadly Sins.

It is rumored that the Holy Knights defeated them that day, although many were killed. In fact, the anime begins with some knights stumbling across a large battlefield, razed to the ground with the corpses of their comrades. The Seven Deadly Sins was never heard from again … that was ten years ago.

Now, they are more of a myth than anything else. However, a terrible fight has struck the kingdom. The king, as the holy knights told him, is bedridden with illness, so they have taken control of the kingdom. However, the king’s third daughter, Princess Elizabeth, knows the terrible truth. She sets out, sneaking out of the castle, to find the only ones she believes can save the kingdom from this terrible plague of evil … The Seven Deadly Sins.

I think it was pretty good, don’t you think? Now, I know what you are thinking. Or is it, “why the hell would the princess try to find traitors to save the kingdom?” or is it, “Obviously they were framed.” Both are valid, but I leave it to you. For her own reasons, perhaps because she has known them since she was a child, she is confident that the Seven Deadly Sins are not the evil that the entire kingdom thinks they are. So, she sets out to find them!

Now for such a dark and twisted title and story, you have to believe me on this one, this anime is tremendously fun. Now, I said that the Seven Deadly Sins were the most powerful knights, right? They are ridiculously powerful. As in, during the fight scenes they are having more fun than fighting, at least at first. It’s a pleasure to see how carefree they are. Now when you get into the story and the backstories, it gets pretty sad, but don’t worry, there’s a lot of comic relief.

If you’re wondering, this anime is a “Netflix Original” so you need to know where to go to watch it. Trust me on this one, just go check it out!
