10 Tips for Creating a Memorable Wedding Reception

The most memorable wedding reception is rarely the most expensive, the most elaborate, or the most time-consuming, but it is more likely to involve the most careful planning. Our experts are talented at finding what matters most and including with that the most significant event for each couple’s memory.

  1. Plan an eventful wedding – Oh, the excitement of a wedding that recognizes grandparents, parents, and other lifelong relationships! How about planning your amazing big day on a grandparent’s anniversary? Invite the grandparents to stand at the head table with the bride and groom, and celebrate their day with period-themed music and dance.
  2. Combine a holiday celebration – Christmas will never be the same again, and no one will ever forget your anniversary when you combine your day with a holiday. And the decoration? It’s quite the flutter of the holidays, teamed with wedding bells, lace, and white satin. What could be better? Can you define the holidays without your wedding party?
  3. Set a theme to celebrate – Seasonal or vintage themes can be a fun way to add memorable content and even a time stamp to a wedding. Perhaps, the era of the birth of the bride and groom?
  4. black tie and masquerade – Gather all your plans for a masked ball and give the most mysterious ones a fun prize for their costume. One of my favorites combines this formal event with ‘celebrity couples’ and pairs the winning musical selections with a magical theme of great music.
  5. casual afternoon tea – a string quartet playing as the sun sets low in the western skies might be a better choice for the more informal yet memorable event. Bring on the rain with some rainmaker tunes.
  6. breakfast with strollers – when the coffee is hot, the air is crisp with early morning chill, and musicians are waddling through the audience, what could be more memorable at your wedding reception than musicians playing from the early hours?
  7. Music and dancers from the big band era – Wedding attendance can be even more fun when everyone is dancing, but if the attendees are not dancers, perhaps the dancers on stage can give them some tips and ideas. An inspiring line dance or group dance might be a good option if you want more action among the guests, but any big band-era musical dance can be fun for multi-age groups.
  8. Cover Band Entertainment – current melodies, selected for the many hours of memories stirred with words, music and hours of time together, enhancing life before, during and after the wedding. A selection of popular tunes can inspire your feet to dance.
  9. Special plugs for shows – Showcase a favorite singer, lookalike tribute artist sends memory creation show tunes from talented featured singers.
  10. moments to remember – whether your music is relevant or classical, the melodies you present at your wedding will be the most remembered music of your life. I still know every word of ‘The Rose’ and ‘Ever Green’ even 35 years after the fact…
