3 reasons why your PART file won’t open

If you’ve ever noticed the various files that are on your computer, you can see that they all have what’s called an extension. For example, a file titled mypage.txt is a simple text file. We know this from the .txt file extension. These extensions indicate the types of files that exist on your computer. File extensions are usually three or four letters long. The PART file extension is quite common and indicates that a partially downloaded file exists. In many cases, if a user attempts to open this type of file, it will be to no avail. Here are some reasons why.

corrupted files

In some cases, no matter what you do, a partially downloaded file won’t open. The file may be damaged in some way and therefore won’t open. If this is the case, you should try to locate a different version and download it. You can also try contacting the person who sent you the original file and asking them to send it to you again. The file may have been corrupted when it was sent.

The app version is wrong

Another problem many run into when opening a file with a PART extension is that they have the wrong version of the application that is opening it. There may be an existing application that seems to be able to open this type of program but will not complete the task. The application in question is outdated and does not support opening a PART file. Users can simply download the app update. Once it’s updated, you should easily open the file.

Incorrect application association

You may have the right app and it downloaded successfully. The version has been updated and it looks like it should open any partially downloaded files. The problem is that it doesn’t. What happens is that the operating system is not aware or does not have the correct information that allows it to know that the application does support the file. In this case, you must declare which program the computer should use. It’s a pretty simple process where you’ll select the default program, locate the appropriate app, and open the file. The computer will now know which application is the correct one to use in this case.
