burlesque corsets

Burlesque is the perfect excuse to wear a fabulous corset in full show. Corsets worn as undergarments can be very attractive, but you need to make sure that lace, ruffles, or any decorations don’t interfere with the dress worn over it. For burlesque, on the other hand, the goal is to show off the figure and the corset itself. This means that you can opt for extravagant styles.

The corset is the key feature of burlesque costumes. Slimming the waist by 2 to 4 inches, the corset really makes the most of the female figure, giving the perfect hourglass shape. And the beauty of the corset, and the curvy look it achieves, is that it’s sexy and feminine for all figures. For slimmer figures, a corset emphasizes the bust and for fuller figures, the corset really makes the most of all your assets!

If you have a smaller bust, choose a corset with additional embellishments over the bust, such as ruffles or feathers, and pair it with a ruffled skirt or ruffled panties with fishnet stockings under a tutu.

For curvier figures, keep the decoration on the corset to a minimum and wear a bustier skirt or bustier train over a short skirt to really emphasize the hourglass figure.

And if you have a very large bust, choose an underbust corset that cinches at the waist but allows you to wear a bra that fits you well. You can wear an underbust corset over a simple dress or shirt.

burlesque shows

And of course burlesque doesn’t just mean red and black and striptease. Burlesque is based on a comedy or variety show and many of the most famous performers have quirky characters on stage as well as acts…and of course corsets to match!

Whether the act or subject is a demon, a mermaid, a ringmaster, a dancer, or even a vampire, extravagant corsets are always a key piece of the outfit. And while burlesque generally involves the removal of some clothing, in most performances this is simply teasing…removing stockings and gloves in a slow, sensual manner is a typical part of any act.

Most corsets are definitely not designed to be taken off quickly! And most of us are looking for corsets to wear to clubs or fancy dress parties, so taking them off isn’t a problem, however, if you’re looking for a bit of the taunt factor, go for one with a zipper in the front or back.

A good corset can also be worn under a jacket with jeans or with a long skirt for a black tie event. Corsets are back in fashion, so use the excuse to emphasize your femininity!
