Are your negative eating behaviors keeping you from losing weight?

There are many situations in our lives on a daily basis that affect the way we make food choices, which can actually lead to negative eating habits. Here are some tips to help you overcome your bad eating habits.

– Do not eat while you are actively doing something else. For example watching television or reading. Eat your food only when you’re sitting at the table, not when you’re in the fridge or just standing up.

– When you are eating, chew slowly, this will allow your stomach to think that you are full. Eat smaller portions of food, and when you are full, stop eating. Don’t fill your spoon or fork with too much food.

– Avoid buying high-calorie foods. Always make a shopping list before you buy so you don’t deviate from it and make compulsive choices of foods you don’t need (which are usually high-calorie foods like cookies, chocolates, etc.)

– Tell yourself that when you feel like eating or snacking you should do some kind of physical activity to distract yourself from food.

Being aware of how our eating behaviors can have a negative effect on weight loss will show you that by making a few changes here, it will be much easier and more achievable to reach your weight loss goals.

If you really think about all the places we eat, who we eat with, the times of day we eat, etc., you can really see how it would be so easy to overeat and gain weight. I myself was a victim of negative eating behavior several years ago; however, I managed to lose 65 pounds and have successfully maintained it. I changed my eating habits, but I also needed some extra help to reach my weight loss goal.
