Car Camping – How to organize a family campsite

Do you like camping as a family as a summer hobby? That has been the case in my family for over 30 years. We always choose the same campsite every summer because of the amenities it offers for family fun. Here are some tips to help your family plan your next family camping trip.

First, families must communicate which days and where they want to camp together. Family Camp is usually held at the same time each summer. That means people can plan around those days for other kid-involved summer activities.

Next you need to get a place to camp. Reserve America makes camping reservations relatively easy. When you go to your site, enter what style of camping you’d like: Tent Camping, RV Camping, Group Camping, or Day Use. Then, select the state, zip code, or campground with information from date of arrival and length of stay. Miraculously the site looks for your choice and you decide which site to keep. Please note that you can only book six months in advance. That could make it difficult to get a spot at popular campgrounds. The best early counseling plan!

In the meantime, check the camp and kitchen equipment for repairs or replacements. A week or two before your trip, take the time to set up your tent or trailer. Not only will it allow you to see if they need repair, but airing them out won’t hurt either. Check your portable stove’s fuel and whether it will start with piezo ignition. Create a checklist of stored equipment and take stock of what you have and what you may want. Communication eliminates duplication of certain camping equipment when sharing the same camp site.

Lastly, plan meals and snacks for the week. Pre-planning meals helps both the pocketbook and the time that could be spent on family fun. Especially staples like ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, peanut butter, jelly, salt, pepper to name a few. Check your cabinets and refrigerator for these items. Organize each meal ahead of time by placing it in labeled plastic bags. Fortunately, with the motorhome, what you miss can be bought at a local grocery store.

Finally, treasure the memories shared each summer with your family. There is nothing more enjoyable than sailing and swimming during the day or laughing around the campfire each night. It puts busy schedules on the back burner during the week.
