Piano Transcriptions
There are two basic types of guitar and piano transcriptions, each of which can be used by a guitarist or pianist. One type of transcription is a faithful recreation of the original piece, while the other is an arrangement that changes some or all of the original piece’s important characteristics. Depending on the composer, there may be a difference in the method used for piano and guitar transcriptions.
Traditionally, transcriptions were made manually by musicians who were familiar with the music. They would slow down the recordings and transpose them to match the music. These methods would change the pitches, so the transcribed music would need to be transposed to the correct key. However, digital transcription aids are able to detect pitches without changing the pitches.
Transcriptions written for a guitar are often written in a lower key than those for piano. This is because a guitar’s range is a little lower than that of a piano’s. This means that guitar players can play music that they couldn’t play on the piano. Guitar players can then simply adjust the transcription to fit their instrument’s range or chord voicing.

Despite its apparent benefits, it is known to have many transcription errors, such as varying note lengths. This can be a significant problem in the production of quality transcriptions. However, with some software, mistakes can be corrected manually.
