How good is the new Top of the Range Digital Scalextric Pro Gt C1242 set?

The Scalextric pro GT digital set C1242 is their new 2009 release replacing the old world championship set. This time Scalextric moved away from the fragile Formula 1 cars and replaced them with four GT cars.
The set contains everything you need to start racing for up to 4 people. With four handheld controllers and 4 digital cars, all ready to race. Digital racing is a much better experience than the old analog racing you may have known as a child. With all 4 cars racing in two lanes and lane change controlled by a button on the handheld controller, it becomes an exhilarating driving experience for the whole family.

The track is the X3 layout, which is Scalextric’s second largest layout and their largest digital track. The set contains 2 lane change track sections in an extended 8 track offset figure. Another feature is a lap counter to keep track of who is winning the race… and a flyover linking the crossover section of the track.

Later this year there will be a 6 car power base available to allow all digital tracks to be upgraded to allow up to 6 cars to race at once, this will create more excitement with digital racing. Other features of the 6 car power base are that you can have ghost cars racing on the track, thus you can race without friends. Detailed lap times are another feature of the new power base. We suggest that if you want to race 6 cars at a time, we suggest you extend the track as there will be little room to race without the constant distraction of endless crashes.

All supplied Scalextric cars come with working headlights and taillights, magnets fitted as standard to help keep the cars on track. The 4 cars contained in the game are probably the top 4 sellers over the past year with attractive liveries being the main reason for their demand.

Overall the Scalextric Digital Pro GT set is the best value set you can buy from Scalextric. The set would cost over £450 if all items were purchased separately. Featuring tougher cars than the previous top of the range set, this set is much better suited to younger drivers, allowing for a bit of the roughness and tumble that would be expected with the fast and furious racing that a digital design provides. The set will be popular with older Scalextric fans and the younger generation. The digital aspect of the set will keep you entertained for many hours, plus the option to add one of Scalextric’s track extension packs to the track to help expand the layout subject to available space. Another option could be to add the new Scalextric 6 car powerbase to the track to allow even more cars to race. We would recommend this game to anyone with money to burn.
