Is Counter-Strike 2 Beta Free?

Counter-Strike 2 Beta Free

Valve peeled back the curtains on Counter-Strike 2 this March, announcing a limited beta test for the surprise CS: GO replacement. Players are invited to join based on various core factors, including recent playtime and Steam account standing.

Those that receive an invite will see an “enroll” option on the main CS: GO menu. They can then download the reworked game and jump in to experience new smoke grenades, sub-tick servers, and updated maps.

When Valve announced the upcoming Counter-Strike 2 update, many players started looking for ways to access the beta. Fortunately, the surprise CS:GO replacement is free to current players through Steam. However, the game is currently only available through a limited beta test and is not open to all gamers.

The studio has emphasized that any third-party sites offering CS2 beta keys or invites are scams, with the only way to get in being through a notification within CS:GO’s main menu once Valve selects you for the test. Players can boost their chances of being invited by playing competitive matches on official Valve servers and increasing their Trust Factor, as well as by keeping a high Matchmaking rank.

The CS2 Limited Test started on March 22, and the full release of the title is scheduled for Summer 2023. Players who qualify for the Limited Test will be sent an invitation, and all their inventory will carry over into CS2. Those interested in playing should ensure that they have the most up-to-date version of CS:GO and keep their Matchmaking rank above a certain threshold to increase their odds of being selected.

If you have a Steam account and meet certain criteria, you’ll get invited to the CS2 beta. Eligible players receive a notification in the CS:GO main menu, and clicking ‘enroll’ will start the Counter Strike 2 beta download. Once it finishes, you can launch the game and select the “Limited Test” option to play.

Currently, the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test offers Deathmatch and unranked competitive matchmaking on the Dust2 map. However, Valve teases that future limited tests will include additional game modes and maps.

The invitation process is based on a variety of factors, including your recent activity on official Valve servers and your Trust factor (which increases over time as you play CS:GO). The FAQ also mentions that your Prime account status in CS:GO will carry over to CS2. The beta won’t open up to everyone at once, though. It’s a limited-time offering, and the first wave of invites was given out during the summer when Valve employees go on vacation.

Valve has shaken up the esports world with its surprise announcement of Counter-Strike 2, which is coming this summer as a free upgrade to CS:GO. The sequel will overhaul every system, map, and piece of content, with a major shift to the new Source 2 engine that delivers a noticeable leap in graphical fidelity. It’ll also feature responsive smoke grenades and an evolved tick rate that, according to the developer, will make movement and grenade trajectories feel much more consistent.
