Miracles in the life of Saint John Vianney

There were many miracles in the life of Saint John Vianney the Priest of Ars. The most famous possibly was the one who survived an attack from the devil that set his bed on fire.

And the miraculous appearance of Our Lady, but there were also two miracles that we want to tell you about today that you may not be familiar with. These two are the multiplication of flour in La Providence’s kitchen, his school across the street from his rectory, and the miracle of wine.

The miracle of the multiplication of flour.

Once, in La Providence, there wasn’t enough flour to bake even an oven full of bread. The mill was unable to grind the wheat that had been shipped. There was enough flour to bake three loaves of bread. When they saw that there was not enough flour to feed all the girls in the school, they turned to John Vianney.

He told them to use what little they had.

They took the small amount of flour they had and began to knead it. The trough was filled, overflowing with dough as in the days when they had a large sack of flour. Had John Vianney prayed?

Did you ask the Lord to multiply the loaves as He did, on the Mount of Beatitudes? It is definite that the Lord granted a Miracle for the spiritual children of John Vianney. Was it because of his intercession? What do you think?

The miracle of wine.

One day John Vianney approached his people and warned them that a full barrel of wine had broken and the contents had spilled onto the sandy ground. Sure enough, when they investigated, the barrel was empty. They tried to recover as much of the clearest wine from the sand as they could. They could barely pick up two cubes of clear wine.

They poured what little they had into a barrel that was almost empty. To their amazement, they kept pulling from the barrel for days, until there was nothing left!

Next to the now empty barrel was another wine barrel, half full. They decided to pour the 50 liters of wine from the half-full barrel into the empty one next to it, which had a capacity for 200 liters of wine.

Playfully, one of the women joked, “See if the keg is full!” Imagine the look on her face when the other woman replied, “It is! Look, I can touch the wine with my finger.”
