Thai Visa Options – Which Thai Visa is Right for You?

Foreigners wishing to visit Thailand have several Thai visas to choose from so that they can legally enter and stay in the country.

30 day stamp and VOA

The visa waiver rule allows certain nationalities to visit Thailand and stay here for 30 days without an entry permit. Currently, at least 43 nationalities qualify for this Thai immigration scheme. A round trip plane ticket is required.

The Visa on Arrival (VOA) allows certain nationalities a 15-day stay in Thailand after completing the application process at the airport. Proof of accommodation and financial means of the applicant is required.

Please check with the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the up-to-date list on qualifying nationalities for the above.

Tourist visa

A normal tourist pass is valid for 60 days. This must be obtained from the Thai embassy/consulate prior to your departure to Thailand. This visa can be extended for 30 days after the end of the validity.

no B-visa

Those wishing to conduct business or work in Thailand must obtain a non-immigrant business visa. A valid work permit is needed to go with the entry permit, especially for those who will be working in Thailand.

Dependents of Non B holders such as their spouse and children can apply for A Non O in such a way that they can also stay in Thailand.

OA for non-immigrants, also known as Thai Retirement Visa

Those who are 50 years of age or older and have sufficient means to stay in Thailand can apply for a retirement entry permit to be able to stay here on a yearly renewable basis. The financial requirement is an important factor in being able to obtain this permit.

Nonimmigrant Or aka Thai Marriage Visa

A foreigner who is married to a Thai person can apply for a marriage pass to be able to stay in the country for one year. It can be renewed for one more year as long as the applicant meets the requirements.

Thai Education Visa

Those who will be attending a Thai language course or those who will be studying at an accredited Thai government school will be able to apply for a student permit in order to stay in Thailand during the course of their studies.
