Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air Disassembly Experience

I think a lot of people would have heard of the product before the Mi Notebook Air was released. Putting the product itself aside, we once again saw the Xiaomi Company set foot in a new category of tech industry products. As a consumer, like everyone else, I personally prefer products that are good enough in themselves rather than their famous brands. And today, I would like to share the disassembly process of the two versions of Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air.

My 12.5-inch Notebook Air

First, let’s look at some details of the 12.5-inch version. In general, the internal structure of this notebook is very compact. It is based on the Intel Core M3 processor, which makes the passive cooling system very space-saving.

Furthermore, we can see that the 12.5-inch Mi Notebook Air adopts the irregularly shaped battery design. And the speakers are on the sides. In the center of the motherboard, there is an Intel Core M3 processor. It is worth mentioning that there is a self-augmented M.2 SSD interface prepared inside this laptop.

Compared to the 13.3-inch version, the 12.5-inch version is slightly smaller and the total weight is approximately 1.07 kg. This device is very easy to transport and place, which is relatively good for office users and business travelers.

My 13.3-inch Notebook Air

There’s no question that the 13.3-inch version is relatively sturdier than the 12.5-inch in terms of performance. This laptop uses a single brass and dual fan cooling configuration, and the air outlet is located on the hinge. In fact, for such a slim laptop, although the outlet location may not be conducive to heat dissipation, this might be the only and relatively good solution.

Also, the 13.3-inch version is equipped with Samsung 256G SSD. And it also provides users with an additional reserved M.2 SATA SSD interface to upgrade on their own if needed.

As for the gaming experience of the 13.3-inch Mi Notebook Air, I found the frame performance to be quite decent after trying out some mainstream MOBA and shootout games. In fact, the performance of the graphics card, GeForce 940MX, is relatively sufficient to play most games, and the 1G of memory is useless.

Also, I tested the bracelet unlocking by placing the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 near the standby interface of the laptop lock screen. This sounds perhaps full of technology. However, there are three conditions to achieve this function, the updated Win10 RS1 System, the appropriate Xiaomi software, and finally the Xiaomi Mi Band 2.

Finally, the 13.3-inch version introduces “a device with three displays” by generating two separate 4K resolution display interfaces due to the HDMI interface.

Common things

Both versions adopt the keyboard with 1.3mm key shape. From a short-term perspective, it feels better than my MacBook Pro. But for long typing, the keyboard on most laptops would be more tiring than any standalone type keyboard. Therefore, the small space in the keyboard feel may not be that important for the selection.

Summary

As a thin and light notebook, which at the same time takes decent performance into account, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air is able to meet the needs of many people as far as I am concerned. Although not perfect in performance, this novelty is compact enough in body design.
