What is Swarovski Crystal Heliotrope?
A detailed description of the color of the Swarovski crystal heliotrope.
Deep and bright purple glow.
As its floral namesake would imply, the Swarovski crystal ‘Heliotrope’ color is based on a lush mix of purple hues, bathed and enhanced with a reflective sheen represented by a heavy metallic back coating.
The ‘Heliotrope’ back coating is heavier and therefore provides a higher intensity effect than that seen with the ‘aurora borealis’ finish. As with Bermuda Blue, the Heliotrope coating features a colored mirror finish, which ‘returns’ the light within the particular shades of the glass, serving to further emphasize the range of colors presented.
As with various Swarovski specialty finishes, Heliotrope provides a pleasant transient range, in reaction to the angle at which both directed and ambient light are received. In sidelight conditions, the darkest purple, almost black, surrounds the edges of the glass. Grays and sheer glass provide reflections as a smooth transition moves into imperial purples and velvety midnight. As the range passes through lighter purples and lilac, incidental modulations marked fuchsia, violet, and cobalt appear in the facet planes.
Moving into the crystal interior, deep ocean blue and green, turquoise and aquamarine merge to climax in a striking sapphire center point, bathed in an ethereal near 3-dimensional / holographic sheen courtesy of the metallic back lining. But even here, in the crystal heart, momentary flashes of pure deep purple reaffirm a core of the heliotrope palette.
In the head-on light, a light lilac ‘starburst’ is found, still bearing the remarkable light-filled sapphire central core, resplendent in the deep borders of Tire.
Available in the smallest Swarovski crystal hearts and other smaller designs, Heliotrope shows itself best when its full range is allowed to reign in multiple facets, making it particularly suitable for pendant designs on necklaces and earrings.
