Drain Repair for Your Kitchen and Bathroom

Have you ever had a problem with your kitchen or bathroom sink? Have your drains ever become clogged to the point where they don’t drain any water? When you have problems with your sink drain, there are a variety of ways to fix and unclog your pipes. Depending on what is clogging your pipes, you may also need to replace the traps and main line. Hopefully, the following tips and advice will help you get your bathroom and kitchen sinks working properly once again.

There are a variety of degrees of clogs in the drainage system which, of course, can be caused by a number of things from food, materials, debris, and other substances that should not be drained. One of the best ways to avoid clogging a drain in your kitchen in the future is to have a trained plumber install a garbage disposal system. Generally, the garbage disposal can shred whatever you throw away, preventing large chunks of food from falling down the sink.

If the water stops draining in your kitchen or bathroom, you can get a simple solution at Wal-Mart or a nearby grocery store. The best solutions will help dissolve and break down food particles and accumulated grease in your drain pipes.

Another home remedy for unclogging your bathtub and sinks is to pour a little baking powder into them. About a cup or just a little less will do. After adding the baking powder, the next step is to add about 1/3 cup of vinegar and then pour in some very hot water, about 1/2 cup. Let it stay in the pipe for about 30-35 minutes and then run very hot water down the drain for about 60 seconds.

In addition to adding a garbage disposal to prevent clogging, you can also run hot water down the drains every other day. So every two to three days you turn on the hot water in the tubs and it sinks for about a minute or two. This will help prevent clogged pipes and keep odors to a minimum.

One of the best ways to tell that your drain is clogged is for the water to start running very slowly. Of course, before that happens, you may notice a strange smell or odor due to food that is moldy and accumulated inside the pipes. It won’t be long after you smell the odors that the water stops draining properly, which means it’s time to do the mixing steps for the solution or baking powder.

Good luck fixing and repairing your drainage systems for your kitchen and bathrooms!
