HubPages and AdSense: What do you need to make money with AdSense on HubPages?

Hubpages.com is a free revenue-sharing site where authors (called “Hubbers”) write articles (called “Hubs”) and share revenue from various affiliate programs, including Google AdSense. So what do you need to make money with AdSense on HubPages? Well, there are several steps to successfully earning income with AdSense on HubPages.

You need an AdSense account

HubPages does not pay you directly. You need your own Google AdSense account to make money with HubPages. If you already have an account, please use your existing account. However, if you don’t have an account, and depending on where in the world you live, this can be a problem. It’s usually best to have published a few decent hubs before applying to Google by citing your HubPage profile page as “your” website.

Need unique content on HubPages

In theory, you can post duplicate content on HubPages (as long as you have the legal rights to do so). In practice, you will find that the automatic internal scoring system at HubPages will rank your duplicate content hub so low that search engines will ignore it.

You need to do keyword research on HubPages

You need to find decent long-tail keywords so that your hub can easily rank for. Developing centers on “credit cards” or “cheap viagra” will bring you nothing but frustration – it certainly won’t make you money with AdSense.

You need the right layout for AdSense on Hubpages.

You need to make sure that your hub layout ensures the maximum number of AdSense blocks and that as many of these as possible are placed “top half of the page.”

You should focus only on AdSense

If you’re trying to earn AdSense income in a hub, don’t distract your reader with other offers, like eBay or Amazon pods.

You need the right traffic for your hubs

Having a lot of fans and other hubbers come and comment on your hubs is good for your ego, but it won’t make you a hundred. Much of the traffic from Digg or Stumbleupon will not receive your comments or cash. The only visitors who will click on your AdSense ads are those who find your hubs through search engines. Which brings me to the next point.

You need the right links to your HubPages

You need to make sure that there are links between your hubs and also links from external sites pointing to your hubs, which will help search engines find and rank your hubs.
