Nautilus Elliptical Trainers – Overview

Elliptical trainers are a popular form of low-impact cardiovascular machines in the exercise community. These types of trainers use a circular motion that simulates the movements of walking, bicycling, and stepping in an individual’s everyday life. The machines also work the arms while working the lower torso. People on an elliptical machine will stand upright with their feet on the pedals and their hands on the handrails. This exercise regimen has very little impact on the back and knees. Trainers can still watch TV, listen to music, or read a book while exercising.

Nautilus is a manufacturer of elliptical trainers. They also make the popular BowFlex machine, Schwinn elliptical trainers, Schwinn treadmills, and stationary bikes. Nautilus is a popular and trusted name in the cardiovascular exercise equipment business. Consumer Reports often ranks the team highly. They also produce equipment under the Schwinn, Trimline, and Stairmaster names.

There are two residential models that are built under the Nautilus name: the Nautilus NE 2000 and the NE 3000 elliptical trainer. These models are considered residential because they can only withstand light use. Despite its rating, the machine carries a 10-year frame warranty to ensure its quality build. Electronics are warranted for one year and parts are warranted for two years. Nautilus elliptical machines are quiet during exercise and easy to assemble.

The Nautilus elliptical has a user-friendly interface and is easy to start. Most have a power saving feature that starts the screen when the user starts exercising. When the screen is on, the user can select the desired schedule. The Nautilus brand has seven pre-programmed exercise programs, 20 training programs in total, and 16 resistance levels. Trainers will also enjoy two customizable and programmable user profiles that are available to design your own program. The trainer can view your speed, exercise time, distance, RPM, pulse, calories burned, watts, resistance, and many other functions on the screen. The distance can be read in both miles and kilometers. Two heart rate monitoring monitors are present on the machine. One monitor is wireless and the other monitor is a metal contact on the handrails. A telemetry chest strap is also available on some Nautilus elliptical models. While working out, the trainer can take advantage of a water bottle holder and magazine rack.

Some models of the elliptical allow the user to vary the stride up to 30 inches in length. The Nautilus MyStride has this technology. Longer strides are preferable for taller people. Typical elliptical machines only have a 16-inch step. Oversized deluxe pads are also available for our taller trainers. Nautilus elliptical machines use the Eddy Current Brake (ECB) resistance system. Some models also have fans to cool the trainers during training. Nautilus ellipticals fold up and store easily. Some have transport wheels to move the machine to the desired location. Depending on the model, the machine can weigh between 150 and 280 pounds. Nautilus elliptical machines are not recommended for individuals weighing more than 300 pounds.
