Outdoor Fun in Florida

The weather in Florida is beautiful year-round, except for the occasional rain, but other than that, there are many exciting events and activities to participate in. This is actually a great time to take the family on a Florida vacation because the popular spots are not very crowded. Disney World is the main site and the first week of February means it won’t be very crowded. It will fill up President’s Day weekend. This is also the same scenario for other sites like Universal Studios, Sea World, Anheuser-Busch and the other big theme parks in Florida.

The Florida State Fair is also held in Tampa in February and is a lot of fun. There are over 100 rides and games and don’t forget the food. From anything fried to cotton candy, ice cream and caramel apples. The 4H and FFA kids will be on site showing off their animals and waiting until you get to Cracker Country. Cracker Country is a rustic turn of the century Florida town. There are always big bands for the main entertainment, as well as daily parades, a sea lion show, ballroom dancing, bull riding, and barrel racing.

The Florida Renaissance Festival takes place each February and features enchanted craft villages, applauded by hundreds of artists, fighting knights and birds of prey. Of course, there is also delicious food and non-stop entertainment. This event is held annually in Deerfield Beach. The Lake Worth Street Painting Festival is a unique annual event. Guests can stroll down the street and see the artist’s renderings on the streets and sidewalks.

The Silver Spurs Rodeo is held twice a year in February and October in Kissimmee. This is where some of the best cowboys and cowgirls come to compete in bull riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronco riding, bareback riding and barrel racing. The rodeo was founded by the Silver Spurs Riding Club in 1944. The rodeo has become one of the best rodeos in the country and the largest east of the Mississippi. It is also one of the top 50 events sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.

Average water temperatures for the Gulf of Mexico in February range from 50 to 60 degrees. The Atlantic Ocean stretches from the mid 50’s near North Central Florida. The southern beaches of the Keys tend to have water temperatures that are several degrees warmer.
