True communication involves more listening than talking.

Sometimes all a person really wants is a soundboard to listen to! If given the ability to vocalize your point, you will find that a person is more than capable of coming up with the correct solution on their own.

The comfort found in “sounding out” and actually being heard has a remarkable ability to offer the speaker all the information necessary to arrive at the solution of the idea. The energy that is transmitted through listening is even more powerful than any words of encouragement or resolution you can provide.

Some people do not understand what communication is about. They may constantly talk, without giving the other person a chance to say anything. Others may simply wait for their chance to speak, not paying much attention to what their friend or family member is saying. Good communication is very different!

Good communication has a lot to do with listening. Instead of just waiting your turn to speak, listening means that you really care about what the other person is saying. You are letting your friend know that what he thinks and feels, and the points of view he expresses, are important to you. When you do this, you are showing your friend that he, as a person, is valuable and valuable.

You may have heard that communication is a two-way street. It is a positive means of interaction between two or more people. Good communication can help form and establish new friendships and solidify existing friendships. You can make your relationships with everyone more satisfying and enjoyable. Everyone from your family members to the new people in your life will know that their place in your life is important to you when you make good communication an everyday part of your world.

As you can see, communication benefits both you and the person with whom you communicate. It goes beyond the simple exchange of words from the mother; you are helping your relationship to be stronger. Every person needs to know that what he thinks and feels is relevant. When you demonstrate your ability to listen more than talk, you really are making a significant impact on your friend or family member. The gift of listening is not only very positive, but it has the added advantage of knowing that he or she is validated in a very special way.

The gift of true communication is not difficult to learn. In fact, you may be quite gifted in the art of communication without realizing it. When you decide to make listening a part of your communication skills, you’ll be giving yourself and others a wonderful gift that will enhance all of your relationships.
