Issue Between Ukraine and Russia
The Ukrainian government has labeled pro-Russian rebels as terrorists, and President Zelensky has called for the country to be placed on the NATO path. A witness to the clashes in eastern Ukraine said that frequent artillery blasts were heard. At a UN Security Council meeting, Ukraine’s ambassador railed against Moscow, calling the Russian invasion “a Nazi-style course of action.” Likewise, he accused Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia of violating Security Council rules by continuing to serve as the council’s president.
There are several factors at play here. Russia wants Zelensky to implement the Minsk agreements, which would bring back pro-Russian regions into ukraine vs Russia news. These terms, however, are unacceptable for Kiev, and the country has made clear that it does not want to follow through with them. As a result, it has turned to the West, and has openly discussed joining NATO. But as the conflict continues, it is not clear what will happen next.

On 8 November 2014, Russia released its most detailed account of its partial withdrawal of troops from the east of the country. This move was a welcome step. While the West is not willing to take steps to force Ukraine to accept the agreement, it is better to remain silent and allow the two countries to sort out their differences through negotiations.
What is Issue Between Ukraine and Russia?
Although the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has only recently gotten serious, there has still been plenty of tensions between the two nations. Despite the ceasefire in place, the situation has deteriorated. Both countries have made a series of political moves that have exacerbated the crisis. The Russian government’s withdrawal of troops from eastern Ukraine has prompted fears of a new war. As a result, the US, Canada and key European countries have agreed to remove Russian banks from the Swift payment system.
The conflict between Ukraine and Russia has escalated over the past few months. While Kyiv has denied the allegations of neo-Nazis, the conflict has caused tensions to rise. In February, the Ukrainian government’s opposition elected a pro-Western president, and on the following day, President Putin annexed Crimea. The world community has condemned the move as an illegal act.
The Ukrainian government has been criticized for its actions against the separatists. In March, a proposed nuclear weapons treaty between the two countries was signed by the Russian President. The EU’s sanctions against Moscow have been condemned by the Ukraine’s Foreign Minister. Meanwhile, the United States has warned that the conflict between the two countries could lead to a global war. And while both sides have not acted militarily, the European Union has not yet made a decision to halt the conflict.
