Why does my Hula Hoop keep falling?

Why does your hula hoop keep falling to the ground like gravity is multiplied by 10!?

Do you feel like giving up?

Have you thrown your hula hoop across the room in frustration, causing a lot of destruction in its path?

Well don’t worry, I’ve been there!

Some people pick it up right away and can keep it spinning for a long time (they were probably the same people you hated at school).

However, we mere mortals can sometimes have a harder time.

For the past 4 years I have been teaching hula hoop fitness to women of all ages, shapes and sizes. Occasionally, some people just can’t seem to get the “ability”…or so they thought! Usually only a little adjustment is needed and like magic they can do it! If you find yourself in this position, I’m going to cover some of the possible reasons why your hula hoop might be falling. keep reading…

Reason #1 – It’s the wrong size.

If you have one of those kids hula hoops from your local grocery store, FORGET IT! They are too small and too light. You need an adult weighted hula hoop, you can get it on eBay or Amazon and possibly local vendors, just type ‘adult weighted hula hoop’ into Google and see what happens.

I personally don’t like heavy ones (2 lbs or more), I have 2 of these and never use them because they hurt so much, plus they bruise, I can usually only do waist training for 5-10 minutes with them.

I recommend hoops that are 2 pounds or less and are wrapped in duct tape (duct tape) that has a cloth base and sticks to clothing and skin.

Reason #2 – Wrong technique!

If you’re struggling to keep the hoop spinning, it could be because you haven’t mastered the technique yet! If you’re stuck in the 50’s and still doing hip circles, then you need to get with the times!

Here is the correct technique..

– Stand with one foot in front of the other (it doesn’t matter which foot)

– Push the hula hoop hard around your waist and make sure it is straight

– Begin to rock your hips back and forth, shifting your weight from your front foot to your back foot.

Please try to avoid big hip circles… You will NOT be successful trying to jump like that.

Think of it as a push-pull movement, pushing forward with your belly and back with your lower back.

Keep your shoulders back and down and your head still… try to avoid fidgeting!

If the hoop keeps falling, try to make it faster. I call it a double time jump… that should work!

Reason #3 – Your clothes are holding you back

This sounds a bit random, but it’s true!

If you are wearing the wrong type of clothing, then this will not be easy for you. Let me give you some examples of clothes to avoid when hooping.

– Loose-fit t-shirts, pullovers, cardigans

– Shorts or high waisted jeans

– Sweatpants/sportswear that are made of nylon or unnatural fibers.

Wear tight-fitting clothing such as vests or T-shirts and tight-fitting pants or leggings made from natural fibers such as cotton. I would recommend as a beginner wearing slippers or something to cover your feet. If the earring falls off a lot, you don’t want to get bruised fingers!
